Have you ever looked back at the circumstances in your life and realized that things were not happening by chance? That there was actually a hidden meaning behind each twist and turn and fork in the road? That every decision you had to make, right or wrong, and every trial and triumph, seemed to be leading you in a direction toward a higher purpose? Sometimes you only see that later in life after much reflection. Other times, you have moments of clarity when you connect the dots of your life and have a sense of satisfaction – that it was not in vain. Our heroines in the book of Ruth experience that kind of epiphany – a moment when you suddenly feel that you understand or become conscious of something that has eternal value. We end our 4-part series in the book of Ruth by looking at the final chapter that puts everything in perspective. Join us for the conclusion of our Christmas series.
It could be the woman at the daycare centre who helps your child feel comfortable in a new environment. Or a teacher who takes time after class to help you through a difficult chapter of a lesson. Or it’s the friend who offers to babysit your cat while you’re away the weekend on an unexpected business trip. What about the caring relative who brings you chicken soup because she hears you are feeling under the weather? These are people who, in their own way, save the day and make your life better. They give you help in a time of need when you’re at your wits end. You can’t thank them enough and aren’t sure how you can ever pay them back for their kindness. In the book of Ruth, a man by the name of Boaz becomes a rescuer - someone who defends, protects and helps our heroine who could not rescue herself. We’ll look at the eternal significance of having a rescuer who gives his all to make your life better. Join us for part 3 of our 4-part Christmas series.
The parking lot is full of shoppers caught up in the Christmas rush. You wonder how far you’ll have to walk. When suddenly you see a parking space open up near the door to the mall...and it’s yours! You’re carrying several parcels and the streetcar is packed during rush hour. As you struggle to keep your balance, someone gets up and you get their seat. You’re late for your reservations and it’s possible you’ll have to wait indefinitely for another table, when the hostess tells you they’re clearing one that’s by the window overlooking the harbour and you can have it. You’re counting your lucky stars. Others might call it ‘favour.’ For Ruth and her daughter-in-law Naomi, they experience favour of a different kind which goes far beyond luck or chance and shows us the heart of God. Join us as we continue in the book of Ruth as part of our 4-part Christmas series.
The economic conditions at home were desperate. So much so that a man decided to move his family to another country where there was hope of a better life for him, his wife, and their children.
